Research Focus/Interests: 1. Understanding the molecular mechanisms of synapse formation by using the neuromuscular junction (NMJ) as a model. 2. Understanding the pathogenesis mechanisms of the various neurologic diseases and developing novel treatments using gene-editing techniques.

Biography

After earning my Ph.D. degree in 2002, I joined Dr. Lin Mei’s laboratory at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Alabama, U.S.A. and then moved together with Dr. Mei to the Georgia Regents University, Augusta, Georgia, U.S.A. In Dr. Mei’s lab, I focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms of NMJ formation and development. My colleagues and I identified the critical function of LRP4 in the NMJ formation, resolving the long-seeking link between agrin and MuSK. We also explored the role of LRP4 in the pathogenesis of the myasthenia gravis, helping to develop novel diagnoses and treatments of the disease. These findings are well recognized, and the work published in Neuron has been quoted nearly 500 times.In 2013, I joined the Department of Physiology, School of Medicine, Tongji Medical College, HUST as the current position. In my lab in HUST, we are developing novel treating approaches for neurologic diseases, such as spinal cord injury, ALS, and AD using gene-editing techniques.
