Clinical Focus:
Research Focus/Interests: We are interested in the underlying mechanisms that enable precise protein and lipid localization. In C. elegans polarized intestinal epithelial cells, apical membrane lines the lumen with microvillus supported by actin network to contribute to physical barrier and nutrient uptake, and basolateral membrane contacts adjacent cells. Using C. elegans as a model system as well as cultured cells, we focus on: (1) Molecular characterization of unconventional protein secretion, (2) Dynamics and traffic of intracellular membranes in response to stresses and pathogens.
