Research Focus/Interests: To investigate the sensory modality of primary sensory neurons using in vivo electrophysiological techniques, and to understand the molecular mechanisms of neuropathic pain

Biography

Dr. Linlin Gao is a neuroscientist and an associate professor at the Department of Physiology, Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST). Before joining TJMC, she was a Postdoctoral fellow in Professor Lawson’s lab in the University of Bristol. She got a Ph.D. degree in neuroscience in Professor Lawson’s lab in the University of Bristol, England. During her Ph.D., Dr. Gao identified the expression of hyperpolarization-activated cation current in DRG neurons with different sensory properties and the possible role of Ih current in neuropathic pain. Part of those works was published in the Journal of Physiology. She discovered that the excitabilities of sensory neurons were changed dynamically during the process of the transition of acute to chronic pain. She therefore investigated the changes of properties of ion channels during the pathological pain process.
