On July 11, 2022, the 27th Tongji Forum on Pharmacology has kicked off thanks to the organization of the Department of Pharmacology of School of Basic Medicine. This forum is a part of the academic summer camp supported by Queen Mary - HUST strategic partnership research funding and represents one of the academic capacity enhancement activities funded by HUST - the University of Sydney Joint Research Center (JRC) Program. Prof. Chao FANG presided over this online event, and Dr. Guo Lin, Assistant Professor of the Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics of the College of Arts and Sciences of Syracuse University, gave a lecture entitled “How to Write a Peer-reviewed Journal Article” via Tencent Meeting.
Dr. Guo graduated from the Ohio State University with a degree in Foreign Language Education whose research focuses on cognitive development and the influence of native language on second language reading and writing skills. Dr. Guo has published extensively in core journals like Learning and Motivation, The Journal of Computer-assisted Learning, International Journal of Education Research, etc.
Dr. Guo has shared with the audience present academic journal article writing skills based on her own teaching and writing experience. She gave a detailed analysis of the framework structure of each part of academic papers, as well as the logic and language expression skills. At the end of her report, Dr. Guo actively interacted with those participants, having a discussion on the use of tense and voice in English papers and on how to reasonably cite works. This highly practical lecture can greatly improve students’ English paper writing skills and promote international academic exchanges as well.
