School of Basic Medicine holds an opening ceremony to welcome incoming graduates


On September 13, 2021, School of Basic Medicine held an opening ceremony to welcome its new graduates who are embarking on a new journey at BMS in this academic year. Vice Dean of BMS Bo TIAN, Xiaoli GUO from Mental Health Education Center, supervisor Xingjiang YU and Xionglin, FAN, Nanyan QIN from the Office of Facilities Management, three staff members from the Office of Graduate Affairs Wenshan WU, Siqing FU and Yao XIAO, and all freshmen attended the opening ceremony, moderated by Haibo QI, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee.

   

On behalf of School of Basic Medicine, Vice Dean Bo TIAN gave a welcoming speech and introduced the history of BMS, its faculty and research platform. In order to help all freshmen better understand their academic years in BMS, Tian Bo elaborated on the admission, education and degree awarding of graduates. Those new graduates are expected to seek innovation while pursuing excellence in BMS.


Prof. Xingjiang YU cautioned new graduates about the significance of academic integrity. Academic misconduct is not allowed throughout one's academic career. He hoped that all freshmen can stick to "truth", "sincerity" and "integrity" instead of fame and profit. New graduates must be ready to withstand trials and tribulations, and always believe in justice and integrity.     

                           

Prof. Xionglin FAN introduced in detail the biosafety in labs. He emphasized that what's really important is prevention so that Prof. Fan told those freshmen about the design of labs and what needs to be noticed in order to better protect themselves in labs.


Xiaoli GUO from Mental Health Education Center paid attention to the mental health of new graduates and gave a word of advice. She suggested them to abandon the prejudice against mental illness but instead to actively learn more about mental illness. She introduced the early symptoms of schizophrenia and depression as part of her efforts to help students early detect and prevent psychological diseases.      

                      

Three staff members from the Office of Graduate Affairs suggested new graduates to be tolerant in teamwork, be alert to telecommunication fraud and illegal campus loans, and more importantly, make personal plan and stick to it.
