Research on Tuberculosis Vaccine submitted by School of Basic Medicine stood out in the special competition "Research on New Immune Materials" of 17th"Challenge Cup" National College Student Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Competition. The research is completed under the instruction of Xionglin FAN, a professor at School of Basic Medicine, with undergraduates Zongjie YAO, Hui FU, Yucun CHEN, Zimo YANG, Yu HAN, Yuting FANG, Yanyun LOU, Xuan LI, Shijie LIU and Ziliang SU as his team members.
The "Challenge Cup" was initiated in 1989 and reputed as the Chinese Olympics of science and technology among Chinese college students. Organized by the Ministry of Education, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, China Association for Science and Technology, and All-China Students' Federation, this national competition consists of two parallel programs, namely, the National College Student Entrepreneurship Program Competition and the National Undergraduate Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Competition. Each program takes turns and is held every other year. In recent years, in order to encourage college students to participate in scientific research, the "Challenge Cup" National Undergraduate Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Competition sets up several special competitions, and "Research on New Immune Materials" is one of those special competitions. The subject of special competitions is submitted by the government or corporations to the organizing committee, and all subjects must be practical and related to key technologies. By doing so, it is hoped that a growing number of college students can immerse themselves in scientific innovation and thus revitalize the country.
Shortly after the organizing committee notified Chinese universities of the special competition"Research on New Immune Materials" in April, 2021, School of Basic Medicine mobilized its students to engage in this national competition and finally elected two teams. Under the guidance of Prof. Fan, the Tuberculosis Vaccine research team looks through the literature and makes a preliminary research plan. The Special Award-winning work, Research on Tuberculosis Vaccine, cannot be completed without repeated discussion, revision and polishing.
The news of victory caused great excitement among the research team. All team members came to a consensus that the Special Award should be ascribed to their joint efforts. Going forward, School of Basic Medicine will continue to support its students to seek innovation and entrepreneurship, and cultivate a large pool of talents for the country.
