Established in 2001, National Demonstration Center for Experimental Basic Medical Education (Huazhong University of Science and Technology), is comprised of one Student Scientific Innovation Base and three branch centers, that is, Kinesiology, Cellular & Molecular Biology and Morphology. It has 44 full-time technicians, 11 of whom possess a bachelor's degree. In 2005, it was approved as "Demonstration Center for Experimental Basic Medical Education" of Hubei Province, and in 2007 selected as "Basic Medicine Laboratory Teaching Demonstration Center" of Ministry of Education. The center runs 28 experimental courses and 246 experimental programs for 16 medical majors every year, covering over 3,000 undergraduates and 1500 postgraduate students.
The center establishes an interdisciplinary teaching system and puts advanced E-learning systems in place including digital medical microscopic morphology, digital human anatomy, and kinesiology virtual experiments as part of its efforts to cultivate students' abilities of independent learning and comprehensive application of multidisciplinary knowledge. Comprehensive experiments and designing experiments account for 35% and 15% respectively. It particularly sets up experiments with kinesiology, cellular & molecular biology and morphology integrated. OSPE has been introduced in the experimental teaching. The center has undertaken nearly 200 innovation projects for college students at the national level. It won 15 first prizes in the National Medical Student Forum of Experimental Innovation and Design, and one grand prize in the 12th "Challenge Cup" National College Students Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Competition.
The center forms an integrated curriculum system centered on organ systems. It has seven national excellent open online courses, seven national excellent courses, six national excellent resource sharing courses, and two national teaching teams. Each year, the center receives staff members from nearly 40 universities every year, and offers support to several universities in the construction of experimental teaching centers.
